Painted ladies

March 29, 2011

As I stood outside painting this (at the intersection of Haight and Central) lots of locals stopped and pointed out to me the historical significance of these Victorians: first I heard Jimi Hendrix’s Electric Church met in one of these buildings, where apparently they took drugs, but Jimi himself didn’t live there.  Later, someone else told me that Jimi actually lived in one of these.  And later still, someone else told me that Jimi lived in one building and Janis Joplin lived next door.  According to Joel Selvin’s “San Francisco The Musical History Tour” the first account is true, The Electric Church being some sort of museum.

I finished!!??!!

October 23, 2010

In June this year I received a commission from the owner of Therapy to paint every building on his side of the block on Valencia street between 16th and 17th streets.  It took me a few months- but here they are!  10 paintings representing 11 buildings.  Thanks to Wayne for the commission and reigniting my fire to paint- now if only I could photograph my paintings as well as I paint them!  😥

Valencia street paintings continued…

Thanks to Pete for sending me the photo!  The painting continues, this is #8 of 10, almost there!!  Sorry about my subject matter being washed out in the photo, due to my positioning relative to the sun’s trajectory towards the earth (me standing in the shade), either the foreground or background is out of focus in the picture.  Unfortunately this is a limitation pending further development in photographic technology.

Thanks to Muddy Waters cafe at 16th and Valencia!  The show was a success- my first public one man show in San Francisco!  Thanks also to John Tunnui for setting it up for me!  You can see John just about every day of the week (as long as it isn’t raining) at Justin Herman plaza in front of the Ferry Building selling his paintings- check it out!  Finally thanks to everyone who came out to see the show, I appreciate it very much!

Here are a few pictures of the show:

June 11th, we had a family night at the Uptown Church of Christ and I was invited to set up a display of my artwork.  Here is a picture of my display as well as the artwork of two other members, Austin Rucker (sculpture) and Kenzi Robi (paintings):
